It’s great to be back! Wonderfully, after many bizarre weeks in lockdown, life is slowly returning to normality at The Norwich School of Hair & Beauty. We have missed all of our students and staff so much over the last few months and have been so grateful for their patience, positivity and kind words.
Now that we are finally able to open up our doors again, it feels incredible to start welcoming back our students. We’re going back to life as usual gradually with a phased return. As such, our fabulous hairdressing and reflexology students returned in July and our brilliant barbering and sports massage students return this month. Then in September our aromatherapy and massage students return, followed by our beauty students in October.
However, in order to make sure that both staff and students are safe, we are following government guidelines carefully. This means that we are:
- Wearing gloves and aprons
- Wearing eye protection in the form of a clear face visor that covers the forehead, and extends below the chin and wraps around the side of the face
- Where possible maintaining social distancing
- Handwashing regularly
- Using disposable tools and equipment where possible
- Maintaining a pre-booked appointment system (for models)
- Using hospital grade sanitiser and cleaning products.
So far all of our talented and diligent students are getting along really well with using visors, masks and cleaning their station and tools after each client etc. Everyone understands the need to protect themselves and each other in order to prevent a second wave and to keep the school open. In order to minimise the risk of spreading the virus further, we have also changed our salon around to adhere to social distancing and we made the additional decision to invest in installing a disinfectant device that mists everything down in the classroom and is suitable for use on all surfaces. We do this regularly to make sure everything is clean.
We are currently working very closely with the government’s guidelines and complying with what they have stated is permitted in order to help reduce the risk of spreading the virus. The government is currently allowing us to complete treatments everywhere on the body except those around the nose and mouth.
The whole beauty industry was looking forward to resuming treatments and services in and around the face area on the 1st August, however this decision was retracted on July 31st due to infection numbers increasing slowly. We are currently looking at a date of August 15th for treatments around the nose and mouth to resume. Otherwise, it’s business as usual with the exception of the PPE-measures we are taking.
We also hope to go ahead with makeup and lashes in September, but we are keeping a close eye on this in case the guidelines change as was the case on July 31st.
