At The Norwich School of Hair & Beauty our learning is term-time only. So, no matter how much we all love our studies and our wonderful students, we are all looking forward to some much needed rest and time with our families when the school holidays do roll around. However, the current coronavirus pandemic is hitting the holiday industry hard. People are avoiding going abroad as they might usually for their holidays due to many issues but particularly the fact that some people are having to quarantine for fourteen days after their return home. This makes going abroad an even more unattractive prospect for a lot of families right now.
This new ruling means that families are also having to take into account the fact that the government’s guidelines might change rapidly whilst they are away in a previously ‘safe’ choice of holiday destination. This would result in them suddenly finding out that they have to quarantine on their return.
Many people do not have the luxury of working from home if they have to suddenly go into quarantine for fourteen days after returning from a holiday. This can be the final straw stopping people from going abroad this half-term or Christmas. What this means is that people are looking for alternatives from their usual holiday destinations and plans. If you, like us, are looking for fun activities that you can do with your family in the Norfolk and Cambridgeshire area, then read on for our top ideas for making your 2020 staycation a hit.
Celebrate The Norfolk Broads
With the Norfolk Broads on our doorstep, what better place to spend a staycation than bobbing along the river on a boat or by learning how to sail a boat?
Go Punting in Cambridge
If you have never got around to punting around Cambridge, then this is the year to give it a go! See the architectural splendour of historic Cambridge from your spot on a punt and then stop for tea and cakes somewhere lovely like Fitzbillies on Trumpington Street to warm up if it’s a chilly day.
Get Arty with Dotty Pottery
A great activity for children of all ages and a brilliant activity for a wet day, which are all too common during October half term and the Christmas holidays. Get the kids to paint some Christmas presents for their grandparents, or make some souvenirs of their holiday with you at Dotty Pottery. What better way to get the kids to sit quietly for a few minutes?
Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary
If your children love animals then a trip to Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary has got to be at the top of your holiday activities list. They have a wide range of sea life for you to see from sharks to penguins and turtles to seals. They have a state-of-the-art marine aquarium that you will not want to miss. What better way to round off the day but by snuggling up on the sofa and watching a film like Finding Nemo or The Little Mermaid? If you needed any more encouragement to visit, then it’s the perfect rainy day activity being all indoors.
Brush Up on Your History With A Day Out to Audley End House, Cambridgeshire
For children who are lovers of history, or at the very least lovers of The Horrible Histories book and TV series, a day out at a stately home like the English Heritage’s site Audley End House and Gardens is the perfect antidote to those school holiday boredom-induced blues. They have some spooky Halloween-themed half term events on for children. Do note that you have to book your tickets in advance to attend the House now, so it is worth planning your trip early in order to avoid any disappointment.
