Student Spotlight: Jeahan’s Journey

Welcome to our first student spotlight blog post of 2023! We are very excited to be featuring student success stories on our blog throughout the year. These are a great chance to get to know what it’s like to train at the school and the opportunities that arise from this! Jeahan joined the school in 2014 and has completed a range of courses with us. Jeahan now works professionally doing wedding makeup and hair as well as working on fashion shows! Check out her Instagram linked below and images of her work.

What course did you complete with us?

ITEC Level 2 Makeup 2012

ITEC Level 3 Creative Hair Design 2014

ITEC Level 2 Beauty Specialist Certificate 2020

ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing and Barbering 2021

NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing 2021

What are you doing now the course has finished?

I provide bespoke wedding hair and makeup services to help my diverse clientele feel their absolute best and look their most beautiful.

I also enjoy a variety of session styling opportunities, both in commercial and fashion.

I also design hair and makeup looks for local fashion shows being the head of the hair and makeup team.

How did the course prepare you for the industry?

Aside from learning theory and gaining practical skills, I was also given opportunities to gain experience in a salon environment, from photoshoots and having my work published in magazines, to taking part in fashion shows. The support you receive from the school continues on even after your course completion. You become part of a family.

The school gives you numerous opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge. You also get to connect and collaborate with industry professionals, thus widening your chances for further growth.

What advice would you give other students who want to get started in the industry.

Start now and never stop learning. Continue to expand your skills. Focus on what you can offer and find your style. You are your brand.

When you are in the classroom, you get all the help and support you need, but when you’re out there, it can get lonely and can be quite challenging. But, as long as you see growth in diversity and promote community over competition, you’re off to a good start.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

The journey and learning continues.
