Here at The Norwich School of Beauty, it brings us great joy to be able to celebrate the successes of our students, past and present. They are our greatest examples of hard work, passion, and determination. Our supportive, working relationships with them extend far beyond the classroom!
Eve Joyner is a brilliant example of a therapist who has gone on to achieve industry growth and independence. A Past student of ours and owner of ‘Perfectly Polished by Eve’, she has successfully set up her own business and has been thriving since she took her first Manicure & Pedicure course with us back in 2010. Armed with some inspiring advice and stories of her beauty business origins, Eve kindly answered some questions for us regarding her journey post-NSHB.
- Which course did you study?
ITEC Manicure and pedicure
ITEC Waxing
ITEC Facials and eye treatments
Lash Lifts
- When did you complete your course?
I completed manicure and pedicure back in 2010 before going on to take other courses over a few years to test the waters. It was then due to request and demand that I decided to get more qualifications.
- Why did you choose to study at the school?
I came across the school by chance and I met Sam who was amazing. This was a completely new venture for me and as I was funding the courses myself, I really wanted to make sure that I was gaining a recognised qualification. I wanted to choose a course that would provide me with as much knowledge as possible over a more substantial period of time as opposed to a one-day course!
- Your greatest piece of advice for anyone thinking of joining a course and entering the beauty industry.
Be patient. Starting from scratch doesn’t happen overnight, be sure to put yourself out there. I know it’s been hard of late, but pamper evenings and events are great ways to get you in front of people. Free advertising is the best form, don’t waste money on expensive marketing! Be competitive, know your worth and do your homework of who is around you and what they offer. Lastly, know your audience.
- Your top tips to get motivated.
It’s easy, I love what I do! Stay on top of your game, keep training and adding new skills.
- Your go-to place for inspiration, and why?
Branded group forums are the perfect place for product support, product training or advice on specifics. Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest are great for nail inspiration of art, techniques, and advice from fellow therapists.
- What are you most proud of so far?
Starting a business from scratch with no experience, being self-employed and having a business that provides me with a regular income. I have always wanted to know what I’m doing at least two weeks in advance – now I’m fully booked for up to six weeks at a time! Also, working to a schedule that fits around my family life.
- Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
You’ve heard the saying ‘do a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life’ well, if that’s still the case and my job still excites me just as much as it does now then I will still be here!
- Please provide contact details for your business so we can help spread the word.
IG and FB Perfectly Polished by Eve.
Based in Hethersett, Norwich.
- What services do you offer?
Manicure, pedicure, OPI gel polish services, facials, henna brows, brow lamination, spray tans, waxing, tinting, Indian head massage and lash lifts.
- What makes your business unique?
I have a beautiful cabin in my garden so it’s private, quiet and a 1-2-1 experience. By appointment only.
- And anything else you would like to add…
My experience of the school has been amazing. All of the tutors and Sam have been so supportive.
