At The Norwich School of Hair & Beauty (NSHB), we’re passionate about helping young people discover new skills, build confidence and explore future career opportunities.
Last month, Sarah and I had the pleasure of attending the Sheridan School Careers Event in Thetford, where we were given a wonderfully warm welcome by Steve and his fantastic team.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Sheridan School is a very special place.
A Calm, Supportive Learning Environment
Sheridan School, part of the Aspris Children’s Services group, provides specialist education for young people with additional needs, creating an environment where every learner can thrive.
The calm atmosphere throughout the school was immediately noticeable. Every member of staff made us feel incredibly welcome, and it was wonderful to see such a nurturing setting where students are encouraged to grow in confidence and achieve their potential.
After setting up our stand in our own classroom, we were ready to meet the students.
Learning Hairdressing Through Hands On Activities
Between 12pm and 2.30pm, we introduced students to the exciting world of hairdressing using our training block heads.
Throughout the afternoon, both boys and girls enjoyed learning practical hair skills including:
-Creating different plaits
-Hair twisting techniques
-Simple hair-up styles
-Developing coordination and creativity
-Building confidence through practical learning
Some students picked the techniques up almost instantly, while others persevered until they mastered them. Watching their confidence grow throughout the session was incredibly rewarding, and there were plenty of smiles as everyone proudly showed off what they had achieved.
These moments perfectly demonstrate how vocational learning can engage young people in a fun, practical and confidence building way.
Thank You, Sheridan School
At the end of the afternoon, we were genuinely touched to receive a thoughtful thank you card, chocolates and a gift bag from the team.
It’s gestures like these that remind us how rewarding it is to work alongside schools that are so passionate about supporting their learners.
Thank you to Steve and everyone at Sheridan School for making us feel so welcome.

Looking Ahead – Working Together
We’re excited that this visit is just the beginning.
From October 2026, NSHB will be working with Sheridan School as part of our Alternative Provision, delivering the VTCT Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector.
This practical qualification has been designed to help young people develop vocational skills, confidence, communication, teamwork and employability, while gaining an industry recognised qualification in a supportive learning environment.
We can’t wait to welcome Sheridan School learners and continue helping them discover their potential.
We look forward to working together and building a fantastic partnership over the coming years.
