HYROX HEROES: Racing to help beat Brain Tumours!

Join NSHB in Supporting Pete and Sarah at HYROX Birmingham to Raise Awareness for Brain Tumour Research

We are thrilled to announce that two of our dedicated tutors, Pete and Sarah, will be participating in HYROX Birmingham this October. This event is more than just a physical challenge; it’s a heartfelt mission to raise awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research. Their motivation stems from a deeply personal place, as Sarah’s close friend, Jayne, has experienced the devastating impact of this disease within her own family.

A Personal Story: Jayne’s Heartfelt Journey

To truly understand the importance of this cause, we want to share Jayne’s story:

My name is Jayne, and I’ve been friends with Sarah for around 18 years. Recently, my life was turned upside down when I lost my Dad to a brain tumour. On January 29, 2024, after displaying worrying symptoms, my Dad went to the hospital for an emergency CT scan. A week later, after seeing a neurologist, he was diagnosed with a large brain tumour. He was sent to Addenbrooke’s Hospital just over a week later, where he was sadly told there was nothing they could do. They gave my Dad 2-4 months to live, maybe a bit longer if we were lucky.

“Around 12 days later, after the palliative care team arranged for a hospital bed to be delivered to his home, he became completely bed-bound and needed round-the-clock care. He lost his ability to talk properly, to walk, to feed or care for himself, and we lost a bit more of my fun, bubbly, and soppy old Dad with each passing day. It was heart-breaking and devastating to see him that way. Sadly, my Dad died just 4 weeks and 2 days after his terminal diagnosis. During this time, I learned that of the £700m that is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, less than 3% is spent on brain tumours, despite it being one of the less survivable cancers.”

Jayne’s story is a powerful reminder of why we need to support Brain Tumour Research. The statistics are alarming, and the need for more funding is critical. Brain tumours remain one of the least survivable cancers, yet they receive a fraction of the research funding allocated to other cancers.

 Pete and Sarah’s HYROX Challenge

This will be Pete and Sarah’s first time ever training for a HYROX event, and they are pushing themselves to the limits, both mentally and physically. HYROX is known for its demanding combination of running and functional fitness exercises, making it a gruelling yet rewarding event.

Why HYROX?

Mental and Physical Challenge: HYROX tests endurance, strength, and determination. It’s a fitting tribute to those battling brain tumours, who demonstrate immense strength every day.

Raising Awareness: By participating in such a high-profile event, Pete and Sarah hope to draw attention to the urgent need for increased funding and research for brain tumours.

Supporting a Worthy Cause: Every step they take, every weight they lift, and every moment they push through exhaustion, they’ll be doing it for Jayne’s dad and all those affected by brain tumours.

 How You Can Help?

Your support can make a significant difference in the fight against brain tumours. Here’s how you can get involved:

Donate: Contribute to Pete and Sarah’s fundraising efforts. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to finding a cure.

Spread the Word: Share this story with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people who know about the cause, the more support we can generate.

Together, We Will Find a Cure

At NSHB, we believe in the power of community and the strength of coming together for a cause. Let’s show Pete, Sarah, Jayne, and all those affected by brain tumours that they are not alone. By supporting Brain Tumour Research, we are taking a stand and making a real difference in the fight against this devastating disease.

Thank you for your support and generosity.
