Who's Who at The Norwich School of Hair & Beauty
Sam believes in dreaming big and chasing your potential! Having started the school in 2008, it has grown no end since then with the team and courses on offer increasing with each passing year.
Leaving school with no GCSEs but a passion to work in the industry, Sam started an apprenticeship in Hairdressing after her chosen Beauty Therapy course had no spaces left. Following this, Sam travelled the world cutting hair for extra money before returning to the UK to work as a Barber and later completed a BA Honors Degree in 2009. Her diverse experiences in life means she can offer invaluable empathy and advice to her students, guiding them through each step of their respective journeys.
Sam says that “watching people grow is so rewarding” and feels immense pride for the success stories that have come out of NSHB. A lover of motivational quotes, her favourite is “have courage, be kind”.
Head of Hairdressing
Sarah not only teaches the Hairdressing and Barbering courses at NSHB but is also Head of Hairdressing & Barbering. An industry pro with over 10 years of teaching experience, she started developing her natural gift for hairdressing at the age of 14 when she began as a Saturday girl in a salon. From the age of 16 she then went on to gain her Level 2 and 3 in Hairdressing, before starting her teaching career at 21.
A previous course director, Sarah holds multiple advanced qualifications including her Level 2 & Level 3 in Hairdressing, Level 4 Colour Technician, Matrix Colour Master, A1 Assessors Qualification, PTLLS, CTLLS & DTLLS. IQA qualification! Our students really are in the best possible hands when they enrol onto a course with Sarah.
Outside of teaching and managing our courses, Sarah is a Mum to her little girl and enjoys spending time with loved ones, going to the gym, running and walking her dog. Sarah’s favourite quote and advice she regularly gives her students is “you never fail until you stop trying”.
Head of Massage & Beauty
Peter is Head of Massage & Beauty and our Student Mentor. His diverse role means that he not only teaches Massage and Indian Head Massage, but offers valuable personal and study support to all our students.
Peter changed his career back in 2013 when he started learning Anatomy & Physiology as a bet with his brother in law and got hooked! Thanks to his mother-in-law Jackie Hamilton, Peter completed many courses including massage, sports massage and reflexology to name just a few!
You will often find Peter in the office chatting to a student and mentoring them through any challenges they may have. He brings a wealth of knowledge through his hypnotherapy & NLP training. Gardening, paddle boarding and walking his 2 dogs is often where Peter spends his spare time, along with his 3 teenage girls.
Beauty Therapy Tutor
Rachel is our Level 2 Beauty Therapy Tutor, meaning she not only teaches but offers support, guidance and invaluable industry knowledge to our students throughout their entire course experience.
Rachel qualified as a Beauty Therapist upon leaving school, going on to work in cosmetics for the likes of Chanel, Clarins and Estee Lauder. An expert in her field having collected a wealth of experience in her 12 years as a beauty business owner, Rachel also works as a Bridal MUA and offers workshops on the side.
Students love Rachel’s calm and collected teaching style, with her expertise inspiring them to never stop expanding on their techniques. Her favourite part of the job is helping her students to progress in an entirely new field, as she remains passionate about passing on her industry knowledge to the next generation of Beauty Therapists.
Level 2 Hairdressing and Barbering Course Tutor
Ellie teaches and assists on both our Level 2 & 3 hairdressing courses. Starting out as an apprentice in a city centre salon, Ellie qualified as a hairdresser in 2012 having been taught by our very own Sarah.
After becoming self-employed in 2015, Ellie decided to go into teaching not long after and now works 3 days a week in a hair and beauty studio in the Norwich Lanes. With a multitude of qualifications up her sleeve such as Level 2 VRQ, Level 2 NVQ, Level 2 NVQ in barbering and her A1 assessors award, Ellie is a fantastic addition to our teaching team.
Ellie told us that she loves “how rewarding it is to watch the students progress into hairdressers and seeing what they do next!” as well as “passing on (her) knowledge to them knowing that (she’s) helped them to pursue their dream careers!”. Exploring the world and going on holiday is one of her favourite things to do, telling us “I think my favourite motto in life is ‘the best time for new beginnings is now’.”
